CHAPTER 11

Faith turned on her heels, and we all had to jog to catch up to her. Eve shot me a “here we go” look, and we threaded our way through the sparsely populated tables until we reached the roped-off VIP section of the club.

Faith focused on the cluster of young vamps lounging on the couches. She unclipped the brass latch and dropped it on the floor before stepping over the rope.

One young man who had not been downstairs with Jamal and Eric glanced up, and his lip curled when he saw us. “This is a private party. No demons allowed.”

I was always amazed at how vampires and demons seemed to recognize that part of Faith before the shifter or the human. She had told me she was hurt once, and her demon genes were dominant now, but I couldn’t see anything except the badass bounty hunter who constantly put herself between me and danger.

Faith snarled. “You will talk to us, or I will send your head back to Thanas on a skewer.”

The blond vampire smiled and leaned back on the couch. He grabbed his crotch rudely. “If you want a piece of me, just ask.” His eyes roamed over her suggestively. “I dig the leather. Are you a stripper or just into BDSM? I am down for either.”

Jamal’s eyes widened as his gaze flicked between Faith and the rude bastard speaking to her. Eric leaned forward as if he was very interested in what Faith would do next.

Faith sighed and glanced at me. “Why are young vampires such dicks? Is it in the genetics, or were they just punks before they transitioned?”

Nishi snorted. “I’m going with option two. These guys were rude little pricks before they transitioned. Why anyone would want these guys to have more than one lifetime is beyond me. I’m struggling with being in their presence for two minutes.”

Faith smiled. “I hear you.” She turned back to the rude leader of the group. He was attractive like all vampires, but he couldn’t have been more than twenty-two when he transitioned. His designer jeans and expensive cotton shirt likely cost more than my first vehicle.

The blond vamp glanced at me, and his eyes narrowed. “Who is your friend? She looks a little stiff, but I bet I can loosen her up.” He curled his tongue around an extended fang.

I tried not to flinch as the luxurious red velvet couches whispered tales of hedonistic revelry. It was a stark contrast to the curtained privacy of the booths nearby. The other vampires turned to me, and I felt the weight of their eyes on me. The thrill of the club’s mysteries drew an eclectic crowd, but the blond vampire locked onto me with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. He leered at me with grotesque interest, and I tasted bile in the back of my throat.

I couldn’t help but feel a mixture of trepidation and fear at how he stared at me. It was a potent reminder of the dangers lurking within this enigmatic world.
